Edward L. Freer, Attorney at Law

Ed was born and raised in the Town of LaGrange, in Dutchess County, where he has resided for most of his life.  He graduated from Arlington High School and was a member of several local boy scout troops, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.  He was also an active firefighter/EMT in the LaGrange Volunteer Fire Department. Ed served in the United States Army Reserve and New York State National Guard, as a medic and military police officer, and was granted an Honorable Discharge.  

 

Ed began his nearly 26-year law enforcement career with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, and ultimately retired from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department in 2013 with the rank of Detective Lieutenant.  While working at the police department, Ed completed his BA at Marist College and earned his law degree at Pace University School of Law, being admitted to the New York State Bar in 2003.  He also holds a MS from the University of Florida in pharmaceutical science with a concentration in forensic science. 

 

Since 2004, Ed has practiced law in the Dutchess County (NY) area, and has focused primarily on representing clients in the sale and purchase of residential homes as well as lender representation, but has also represented clients in matters regarding estate planning, probate and estate administration, landlord-tenant law, family and matrimonial law, small claims court, and has served as a Guardian Ad Litem and as an attorney for persons alleged to be incapacitated. 

 

After retiring from the police department in 2013, Ed was employed at Marist College as an Assistant Director of Safety, Title IX Investigator, and Deputy Title IX Coordinator.  In this final role, he was responsible for institutional compliance with federal and state laws regarding interpersonal violence and sexual assault, and he has conducted over 150 investigations relating to alleged misconduct involving students, staff and faculty.  Ed left Marist College in 2019 to work as an associate attorney at Daniels, Porco & Lusardi, LLP, in Carmel, New York.  where he focused his practice on various aspects of real estate law, including representing purchasers and sellers in residential real estate and commercial transactions as well as representing local lending institutions.

 

In July of 2020, Ed established this solo practice with the goal of focusing on residential real estate, estate planning and probate and administration of estates.
